Layl is a runner, a cyclist, a polymer clay sculpture artist and part of our founding crew. We tracked Layl down and asked her to tell us #WhyIRow. Check it out!
After getting sidelined from running with a bout of planter fasciitis, Layl found her way to the erg and has been rowing ever since. She discovered the benefits of rowing and was hooked. Layl is an invaluable member of the crew — she even brings her family to row with her!
What keeps you coming back after all this time? I love the competition I can have with myself. The numbers always push me. I also love that in 45 minutes I get the best work out possible every time. I love the efficiency - I know that every time I am going to get an amazing work out and I feel so great!
What’s your favorite row routine? I love and hate tabata. It's so hard but you just know it's really good for you! I love the excitement of the sprint and then the challenge of doing it over and over.
How has rowing changed your world? It's so great for my mental health. I've had some life challenges in the last year and a half and rowing has really helped me get a break- turn off my mind plus get a great adrenaline boost to help me handle everything.
What's your favorite way to refuel after a hard row? Steel Cut Oats with almonds, blue berries, dried cranberries, crystalized ginger and yogurt.
What's your favorite row jam? I'm so oblivious to music! I do love that we are now getting to row to Prince!
We are inspired by Layl's committment. You can often find Layl at a morning weRow Sculpt or Signature class, or stop by her studio Clay Squared Infinity around the corner in the Community Keghouse Building.
